Michael Mandalios is a theatre artist based in Glasgow. He is originally from Brisbane [Meanjin], Australia; a graduate of the Bachelor of Musical Theatre from Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, having also trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. He is currently pursuing a specialisation in Voice teaching, while continuing to contribute to the development of new plays and screen work. He is certified as a Vocal Habilitation Professional and trained as a Vocal Manual Therapist.
In May 2022, Brutal Utopias marked Michael’s fourth venture with Playlab Theatre, playing Splinter in the premiere of Elise Grieg’s Magpie in 2019, and audioplay recordings of April’s Fool and Gaybies in 2021. His other performance credits include The Revisionist (Refraction Theatre), My Father’s Wars (Assembly of Elephants), Don’t Call Me Ishmael (Underground Broadway), and Fair Play (Queensland Music Festival).
Michael is also the founder of Refraction Theatre.
His work on Magpie and The Revisionist saw him nominated in two categories for the Matilda Awards in 2019.
As a creative and producer, Michael has worked as director for Genesis (A Very Theatre Company), as Dialect Coach for Duck Duck Goose, I Love You, Bro (THAT Pro.Co.) and Nine (Little Triangle) , and Associate Producer for Becoming Bill (Old Fashioned). He is the creator of The Brisbane Sessions [Beyoncé, Michael Jackson] with Underground Broadway, and co-creator of There’s Something About Mary(s) with Cassie George. Guerilla Sabbath by William Hinz was developed by Refraction Theatre, and Michael dramaturged their new play Residue for La Boite X APT 2022.
Involvement in other developments includes Boy Swallows Universe, My Father’s Wars, Don’t Call Me Ishmael and On The Docks.
